Fear Me

Maker Dalton Jansen
Duration 60 min

Physical experience of fear

Fear Me is a personal dance performance that brings fear into the light, even when it feels terrifying. Fear that settles in your body and takes over. Fear about trying to maintain control while every alarm in your system is already going off. Through powerful urban contemporary dance, award-winning maker Dalton Jansen and his dancers tell an intense story without a predictable narrative. You feel tension breathing down your neck while courage moves just ahead of it.

Representation, connection, and sensation
On stage, one performer and two dancers move between panic and hope, stillness and explosion, control and release. They are not searching for explanations, but for sensations: for lightness within heaviness and for weight within clarity. In this physical exploration, Dalton shows what his work is known for: representation, connection, and impact, which has earned him multiple dance awards.

A personal work that never romanticizes
Fear Me is a personal performance about what happens in the body when tension settles in. About not knowing, and about the space where light does not bring certainty and darkness can sometimes offer protection. It does not romanticize fear, but reveals both the exhaustion and the strength that emerge when you keep moving, even when everything in you says to stop. Because stopping is not an option.

Fear Me is supported by De Coproducers, a collective of fourteen Dutch theaters that believes in innovative makers and relevant performances.

Dalton Jansen is a choreographer, dancer, and artistic director of the dance company BLACK BIRDS. His work moves between hip-hop and contemporary dance and is known for its physical intensity, personal urgency, and social engagement.
