Cirque Mania #21: Tornado's Eye

The Strength of Softness
What truly matters to you? Can you hold onto those values when the world around you rages like a storm? In the hypnotic circus performance Tornado’s Eye, diabolo and Cyr wheel artist David Eisele confronts these seemingly opposite forces. With extraordinary strength and enviable calm, he balances amid the chaos while finally realizing his ultimate childhood dream.
What seems like an ordinary cello at the start of the performance gradually takes on dreamlike shapes in a wondrous narrative. Water floats weightlessly through space and the cello bends in unimaginable ways, creating a new reality in which David makes the impossible possible. You may have seen him in Sawdust Symphony, but in this solo performance, he invites you to look inward and reflect on what truly matters in your life.
David Eisele grew up in the Black Forest, near Freiburg, Germany. He is an energetic creator who lives a minimalist lifestyle. In his work, he explores what happens when you reinvent the movement and balance of the diabolo and Cyr wheel. It’s the spinning itself—the strength, calm, and focus it requires—that David is known for.
He travels the world with his acts and performances, including his solo shows Senses and Cycle and the co-creation Sawdust Symphony. David has appeared hundreds of times on stages at home and abroad. What sets him apart is his broad perspective. He builds his own props, makes his own music, moves with intention, and seeks in everything a connection between craft, art, and instinct.
