Part of Holland Dance Festival

SEMÂ, the dance of the whirling dervishes, serves as both the inspiration and the title for this remarkable creation by Compagnie Linga.

It is the third part of their exploration into the laws of group movement and the collective consciousness of gestures in space—a performance in which dance and live music continually challenge, nourish, and amplify one another.

After the award-winning Flow (Swiss Dance Prize 2019) and Cosmos (2021), choreographers Katarzyna Gdaniec and Marco Cantalupo once again collaborate with composer and producer Mathias Delplanque. This time, percussionist Philippe Foch joins the team—a versatile musician who moves effortlessly between traditional, improvised, and electroacoustic music. Together, they form a surprising duo that pushes boundaries and lays down a pulsating musical foundation for the dance.

In SEMÂ, eight dancers from across Europe take the stage. Their movements bring to life the spellbinding power of the circle: a contemporary trance in which bodies, melodies, and rhythms form a single breathing organism. Dancers and musicians become inseparably intertwined—a play of dependence and renewal, of energy and surrender.

With SEMÂ, Compagnie Linga aims to show how contemporary dance can be both accessible and pioneering. The result is a hypnotic ode to the vital force of movement, where every gesture and every sound contributes to an immersive experience that resonates long after the performance ends.
