The impact of one decision
A giant metal spiral, 2.5 meters high and 5 meters long, dominates the stage and the players as a physical sculpture. This is not simply an object or a prop. It is a set that can move completely: it is our acrobatic and manipulable playground. Circus, dance and architecture come together in Ripple.
With the help of the spiral, the three performers of TeaTime Company explore themes of balance, influence, power, flow and friction. The spiral allows them to push their limits. Where a jump can suspend time and a fall can last forever.
The Ripple-effect describes the influence, persistence and consequences of our choices. Just as natural forces cause vibrations and ripples in water, our choices cause ripples in our relationships, thoughts and experiences.
As the great spiral rolls across the stage in an endless circle, the performers face constant challenges. They are forced to anticipate and react to the movement of the metal wheel, which at times seems to obey and at other times seems to have a will of its own. At any moment the entire situation can change because of an unexpected move from either spiral and performer.
The work of TeaTime Company blurs the boundaries between circus and dance and creates a new, hybrid movement language. Like tea - with only hot water and tea leaves as essential ingredients - a seemingly simple combination that nevertheless leads the performers to moments of reflection, group discussions, fun, tears and, above all, communication. And that is exactly what they want to give their audience.
Their debut performance Stick-Stok was a first step for Tea Time Company's artistic signature: an elegant combination of three different disciplines and backgrounds in dance, juggling and Chinese pole. TeaTime Company has since performed Stick-Stok over five hundred times in more than 15 countries, within and outside Europe. Its success led to new and longer performances such as LINEAR and A Matter of Time. A Matter of Time can still be seen in Belgian and Dutch theatres.
