Welcome to the Vietnamese Living Room – a place to watch, listen, taste and remember. During TAIFUN – an evening dedicated to Asian makers, curated by Tú Hoàng – we invite you to experience the exhibition: Nhà Mới.
Nhà Mới literally means New Home.
After the Vietnam War, many Vietnamese refugees found a new home in the Netherlands. But what does “home” mean when you have had to leave everything behind? How do you live between two worlds?
This exhibition offers an intimate glimpse into the lives of the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands. The stories have been collected by a group of second-generation Vietnamese who set out to uncover the hidden histories of their (grand)parents—rediscovering their own identities along the way.
An experience for all your senses
Watch. Listen. Experience. Taste.
During your visit, you will encounter Nhà Mới in all its layers. Discover stories, images and flavours that bring the Vietnamese living room to life.
Let yourself be carried away by a culinary typhoon of:
- a crispy roll with apple pie filling
- a vegetarian chả giò (spring roll)
Lovingly prepared by Mama Hống and Krok ‘n Roll.
Admire photographs in the foyer by Hiep Nguyen and from private archives, and watch the film/documentary Nhà Mới by Christiaan Sugiono in the Club (first screening at 19:00, followed by continuous screenings).
Nhà Mới is not a closed story, but an invitation—a place where memories come together and new stories begin. Would you like to contribute to the next chapter? Get in touch via nhamoi@officepeople.eu.
This exhibition can be visited free of charge. A ticket is not needed. The film only contains Dutch subtitles.
