Samarpan
The India Dance Festival has a long standing relationship with Kalpana Raghuraman who played a part in the establishment of the festival. In 2013 she created the trio Samarpan with dancers she worked with at the time; she now presents an adaptation of this trio.
Samarpan literally means ‘offering’. This performance is an offering to the audience, but also certainly to the dance itself. In Samarpan we see how Kalpana combines her thorough knowledge of Bharatanatyam with her fresh choreographic perspective. She applies contemporary choreographic ideas and concepts to Bharatanatyam dance to achieve a contemporary, dynamic choreography where the dance form is presented at full strength and at the same time appeals to a broad audience.
Indu Panday, Anuradha Pancham, and Sooraj Subramaniam have worked for some years with Kalpana are at the top of Indian dance in the Netherlands. Samarpan promises to be an evening of pure enjoyment!
Before the performance commences, there's an introduction led by Vincent Wijlhuizen and Kalapana Raghuraman.
