A Lamp in the Spotlight

In the circus theater piece Just the Moon, acro-juggler Raff Pringuet engages in a striking duet with a hyper-modern, automated theater lamp. It casts a remarkable light on the relationship between human and machine — all within a pitch-black universe.

Raff throws, rolls, and catches both himself and his juggling balls in a dazzling display of light, humor, and surprise. But the lamp impresses too, moving as smoothly and elegantly as a dancer and gradually claiming its place in the spotlight. What begins as a friendly duet transforms into a less friendly duel. Come and experience this whimsical play of appearing and disappearing and see the boundaries between human and machine blur and shift.

Close Call Company was founded in 2024 by Raff Pringuet and Julia Gut. Raff graduated from Codarts Rotterdam in 2021, specializing in a mix of juggling and acro-dance. He has since created and performed with Sinking Sideways (Cécile), Muziektheater Johnny Mus (Wie niet weg is, is gezien), TeaTime Company (A Matter of Time, Stick Stok, and Ripple), Circumstances (EXIT) and Cie Grensgeval (PLOCK). With Close Call Company, Raff examines the essence of circus: performing the act that could go wrong. Raff is in love with play, is drawn to possibilities, and is always flirting with the limits. Rarely balanced, always on his toes, forever ready to leap.
