A Lamp in the Spotlight
In the circus theater piece Just the Moon, acro-juggler Raff Pringuet engages in a striking duet with a hyper-modern, automated theater lamp. It casts a remarkable light on the relationship between human and machine — all within a pitch-black universe.
Raff throws, rolls, and catches both himself and his juggling balls in a dazzling display of light, humor, and surprise. But the lamp impresses too, moving as smoothly and elegantly as a dancer and gradually claiming its place in the spotlight. What begins as a friendly duet transforms into a less friendly duel. Come and experience this whimsical play of appearing and disappearing and see the boundaries between human and machine blur and shift.
Close Call Company is a young contemporary circus company. Its two makers, Julia Gut and Raff Pringuet, create work both together and individually, blending a range of circus disciplines.
Julia, from Switzerland, specialises in static trapeze, floor acrobatics and hand balancing. Raff, from Belgium, focuses on acrobatic juggling. After graduating from Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam and working with various other companies, they have now joined forces in Close Call Company to combine their skills and experience in creating accessible, fresh and engaging circus performances.
