What if ADD isn't just a diagnosis, but also a strength? In this new performance by choreographer and Korzo resident artist Zino Schat (1989), four dancers give shape to his personal journey with ADD. Experience what it's like to live in a world that doesn't always move with you and a mind that never stands still.
The dance performance Can you ADD something to my ADD? is topical and based on real stories and experiences. Zino conducted preliminary research into over- and under-stimulation in dancers and the effects this has on their bodies. For the performance, he selected dancers who identify with neurodiversity. They show Zino's personal story and all a different side of ADD. From hyperactive to hyperfocused, from super curious to downright anxious. Different character traits that can all coexist in one brain.
With this performance, Zino has a clear mission: ‘I want to create awareness, show what's going on in an ADD mind and let my fellow ADDers feel that they are allowed to be themselves.’ Expect a stimulating dance performance full of confusion, sensitivity, crystal-clear dance and perhaps even recognition.
Over Zino Schat
Zino Schat (1989) is een Nederlandse danser, choreograaf en sound designer. Hij is de oprichter van Fractal Collective. Zino ontwikkelde zich als straatartiest en toerde over de wereld met zijn crew SkillDealers. Zijn professionele danscarrière startte bij dansgezelschap AYA en Solid Ground Movement, waarna hij zich ook begon te ontwikkelen als choreograaf. Hij werkte met De Nationale Opera, het Nederlands Blazers Ensemble en Conny Janssen. Sinds 2020 is hij een van de huismakers van Korzo. Bovendien is hij coach en docent ben op de Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten.
Zino werd zelf na jaren van onverklaarde uitdagingen op latere leeftijd gediagnostiseerd met ADD. Hij zegt daarover: “Mijn leven voor de diagnose werd gekenmerkt door extreme vermoeidheid, onzekerheid, gevoelens van onbegrip bij mijzelf en omgeving. Mijn schoolprestaties waren problematisch, terwijl andere activiteiten met mijn intrinsieke interesse leidde tot hyperfocus en uitzonderlijke discipline. Sociale verplichtingen zoals het bijwonen van een verjaardag of geven van een presentatie resulteerden vaak in overprikkeling, met soms wel een herstelperiode van een week tot gevolg.”
