"By the end, what lingers is not confusion but empathy."
— ArtsTalk Magazine
"Four great dancers and a good handful of beautiful scenes - insightful and emotional about the subject, just right in terms of movement language."
— Theaterkrant
In this new performance by choreographer and Korzo resident artist Zino Schat (1989), four dancers give shape to his personal journey with ADD. Experience what it is like to live in a world that does not always move with you and a mind that never stands still.
The dance performance Can you ADD something to my ADD? is a representation of various aspects of ADD and is inspired by autobiographical experiences. Zino conducted preliminary research into the origins of his ADD, as well as into over- and under-stimulation in dancers and the effects this has on their bodies. On stage, Zino sketches a family situation, after which he zooms in on the inner world of a neurodiverse person. You see character traits that can all coexist in one brain. From hyperactivity to hyperfocus, from super curious to downright anxious.
With this performance, Zino has a clear mission: ‘I want to create awareness, show what's going on in an ADD mind and let my fellow ADDers feel that they are allowed to be themselves.’
Expect a dance performance full of confusion, sensitivity, crystal-clear dance and perhaps even recognition.
About Zino Schat
Zino Schat (1989) is a Dutch dancer, choreographer and sound designer. He is the founder of Fractal Collective. Zino developed as a street artist and toured the world with his crew SkillDealers. His professional dance career started with dance companies AYA and Solid Ground Movement, after which he also began to develop as a choreographer. He has worked with the Dutch National Opera, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and Conny Janssen. Since 2020, he has been one of the resident artists at Korzo. He is also a coach and teacher at the Amsterdam School of the Arts.
After years of unexplained challenges, Zino was diagnosed with ADD at a later age. He says: "My life before the diagnosis was characterised by extreme fatigue, insecurity, and feelings of incomprehension in myself and my environment. My school performance was problematic, while other activities that interested me intrinsically led to hyperfocus and exceptional discipline. Social obligations such as attending a birthday party or giving a presentation often resulted in overstimulation, sometimes requiring a recovery period of up to a week."
