New edition of Cirque Mania goes above and beyond

Laws of nature do not apply to the makers performing during the upcoming edition of Cirque Mania; the human body will be turned inside out. The circus festival returns to Korzo between Thursday 20 and Sunday 23 March and the programme has now been announced.

The previous edition put female circus makers and performers in the spotlight, now circus programmer Mirjam Zwanenburg chooses makers who push the boundaries and go beyond them. ‘With this edition, I want to introduce the audience to makers who have an inspiring view on the human body,’ says Mirjam. 'Circus performers enchant us with movements that seem almost impossible for a normal person. They twist, turn, jump and fly through the air, pushing boundaries and making us dream. This edition of Cirque Mania is a unique opportunity to be touched by the power, vulnerability and beauty of the human experience.'

Transcience and hand-knitted ropes

The festival will kick off with new makers and makers with new work on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 March. From 2025 on, Camiel Corneille will be one of Korzo's new makers in residence. He celebrates this with a preview of SENESCENCE, in which he reflects on transience. Camiel asks the question: is getting older really inevitable? The recently graduated circus artists from Codarts Circus Rotterdam also perform these days; they show all what they’ve learned in a group performance showcasing several circus disciplines.

The Saturday of the festival is packed with Movement LAB, Melic and Itch. Circus duo Marta & Kim invite movement professionals to experiment in their laboratory. Melic features lots of hand-knitted ropes: Mar Olivé & Shalom Gramiccioli make these ropes the show's leading feature and show how strong such ropes can be, if knitted. Itch by Christopher McAuley is a personal and gentle circus solo about living with a chronic skin condition.

The festival ends in spectacular fashion on Sunday 23 March with RIPPLE. In this performance, the floor is almost entirely occupied by a giant metal spiral. TeaTime Company's three performers named this work RIPPLE after the Ripple effect, which revolves around the influence and consequences our choices have.
