Practising Peace Out Loud
Peace feels farther away than ever, and with it come rising tensions, widening divides, and hardened hearts. Now more than ever, we refuse to look away. So we come together to practise peace. The three-day White Flag Fest (and four-day hackathon) marks the beginning of a gentle movement that carries into the future. And you can be part of it.
White Flag Fest is a space to experience what a body feels like when it is no longer on edge. How a society sounds without hierarchy or competition, and what it feels like when we finally act from equality. This hopeful world of tomorrow is what we will begin to embody together at Korzo.
Peace out? Peace in.

Follow the Hackathon
During the White Flag Hackathon, six diverse artists create a physical and tangible response to the question: for what kind of world do we raise the flag of peace, equality, and connection? The Hackathon can be followed online, and the final result will be shown for free during the presentation on Sunday.
More information about how to register will follow soon.
More details
Korzo brings together six interdisciplinary artists for this physical Hackathon. Under the guidance of maker and curator Jiaxin Chen, they are tasked with developing a physical manifestation over four days and presenting it to the public. In this way, Korzo will become an extension of the Malieveld.
The question they work with: for which world do we raise the flag of peace, equality and connection?
Each artist will receive the Manifesto of the White Flag, the book Prefigurative Politics (Building Tomorrow Today) by Paul Raekstad, a white piece of textile, and dream images and audio recordings from the audience. They will also be creatively inspired by artist and Black Futurist Richard Kofi and sound artists Strijbos and Van Rijswijk.
Expect no ready-made solutions, but a temporary world that engages different senses and offers an experience of what peace might feel like.
The artists taking on the challenge are:
- Néné (Naomi Streefkerk) | Visual artist, Afro-futurist
- Raymond Landegent | Green initiator | NK Tegelwippen & National Park Rotterdam
- James Parnell | Community leader, game designer, ballroom dancer and creator
- Claire Hermans | Physical theatre maker, dancer, choreographer
- Yoko Haveman | Dancer, creator, photographer, educator
- João Brito | Percussionist, performer, maker
From Brazilian favelas to European refugee camps, the massive murals created by United Paintings inspire real change around the world. In this theatrical audio performance, Marte Boneschansker asks: when do we say no? When is enough enough? When do we rise up?
For OPSTAND (‘Resistance’), Boneschansker spoke with people who aren’t afraid to take a stand: Climate activists, feminists, anti-racism fighters, anarchists, and angry farmers. What drives them to act? From mass demonstrations to quiet protests, resistance is a fundamental part of the human experience. You can make a difference. You do matter. You give a damn.
This is a hopeful attempt to move the silent middle. Who will rise up as a counterforce?
De Volkskrant ★★★★ on OPSTAND:
‘Boneschansker doesn’t just make you think about resistance, she makes you feel your inner rebel. OPSTAND is thought-provoking and inspires powerful conversations about how resistance shows up in your own life.’
In June 2025, the NATO summit took place in our City of Peace and Justice. So we raised the White Flag on Korzo's facade. Not as a counter-measure, but as an alternative voice. We want, especially in times like these, to be a place where people can connect more deeply with one another. White Flag Fest is for us the next step.
