"“In Triple Vision by Kalpanarts, three different choreographies are presented that still show coherence. Choreographer Kalpana Raghuraman searches for a form of balance in all three, and in each work it comes out beautifully.”"
— Theaterkrant, on Triple Vision (2025)
Kalpanarts’ latest performance on freedom vs. connection
How do we move together without losing ourselves? In times of polarization, Winged explores this urgent question, inspired by flocks of birds in flight. With its colorful cast, Kalpanarts blends Indian and Western contemporary dance forms into a single soaring movement language. Driven by the powerful live rhythms of HIIIT, the performance becomes a deeply human search for connection in our time.
Dancers who push forward, break apart, and reconnect
A flock of birds has no leader and no fixed hierarchy. And yet, when they move together as one, a breathtaking precision emerges. In Winged, the dancers form ever-shifting constellations. They push each another forward, catch each other, break away from structures, and return again. The tension between autonomy and connection becomes physically tangible in the body, and the music only intensifies that sensation.
Live rhythm by HIIIT as the engine of choreography
In this Kalpanarts performance as well, rhythmic patterns, live energy, and layered compositions form a beating heart beneath the choreography. Indian influences meet Western sonic landscapes. The result is a hypnotic flow in which body and sound become one. Like birds in motion, all moving toward their destination.
Kalpanarts is a contemporary dance company with a diverse cast and community. Choreographer and artistic director Kalpana Raghuraman (also creative associate at the Dutch National Ballet) and artistic associate and managing director Gysèle ter Berg bring a distinctive and expressive form of dance to the stage through the company. In this work, Indian dance forms merge with Western contemporary dance. From refined footwork, expressive hand gestures, and rhythmic precision emerges a powerful, contemporary movement language that surprises and transports.
