— Jury Gouden Zwaan over het werk van Dunja Jocić
"A powerful dance creation that raises questions about new social hierarchies and interpersonal relationships in the virtual world. About the crisis between those who remain anchored in their own reality - a father who searches for his daughter - and those who flee to virtual worlds, which are becoming increasingly brutal."
— Paolo Randazzo, Gli Stati Generali.
Cinematic, international dance production as a hallucinatory journey through the digital subconscious.
After a successful Italian tour, the new performance by international dance company Spellbound Contemporary Ballet and choreographer Dunja Jocić comes to the Netherlands.
In "We, Us and Other Games," Jocić reflects on the ongoing digitization of the human experience. A father searches for his daughter in a digital world called "The Living Project," slowly losing his grip on reality. The performance, performed by an ensemble of eight dancers from Rome's renowned Spellbound Contemporary Ballet, takes you on a hallucinatory odyssey through the digital subconscious, past androgynous insect armies, secret societies, masked parties and a chorus of children performing an ominous dance ritual.
Dutch-Serbian choreographer Dunja Jocić has received several awards, including the VSCD Dance Award De Zwaan for most impressive dance production 2021. Jocić creates cinematic dance performances in which she explores the back rooms of the human psyche.
Dutch newspaper NRC has marked this performance as one of the cultural highlights this Autumn!
Dunja Jocić creates cinematic dance performances in which she explores the back rooms of the human psyche. Her background as a rhythmic gymnast and former ballerina, from the former Yugoslavia, undeniably colors her work. Her dance performances are virtuoso, visually impressive and achingly direct in their execution. Dunja Jocić received several awards, including the VSCD Dance Prize De Zwaan for most impressive dance production 2021.
Spellbound Contemporary Ballet, based in Rome and founded in 1994, is one of the leading dance companies in Italy, operating at a high level internationally, amassing praise by audiences at the most important European, Asian and American festivals.
