On our way to… nothing?
TRANSIT - fasten your seatbelt, there’s no estimated time of arrival is a surreal, physical performance that, ironically enough, addresses the eternal in-between. It summons a kind of transit zone at an airport where no plane ever arrives or departs. As you wait for help, with your suitcase in hand, your body starts to tremble, as if an earthquake is happening inside of you. There is no help on the way. You're completely on your own. Want some advice? Enjoy it, because there is still a long, long way to go.
This absurd, dream-like and often humorous performance provides a cinematic look at the feeling of never arriving anywhere. In reality, we are on the road more often than we set foot somewhere. We are always looking. We strive for happiness. We crave love. We try. We hope. We dream. We wish. We desire. Disclaimer: you have been warned about the turbulence.
TRANSIT is a sequel to After The Echo, which won the Best of Fringe Award of the Amsterdam Fringe Festival in 2021.
"Impactful, touching and, to quote one of the jury members: ‘freaking magical’"
— Amsterdam Fringe Festival
DeRonde/Deroo consists of mime performers Nick Deroo (Belgium, Ostend, 1990) and Tom de Ronde (Netherlands, Delft, 1997). Both studied at the Mime course in Amsterdam at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. There they found each other in their shared love for cinematic theater.
DeRonde/Deroo creates dream worlds that remain etched into your retinas. As a viewer you get a glimpse into a universe with its own rules and surreal moments. Their performances can be described as visually stunning body poems. Tom and Nick are both also active outside their collective platform. As a result, they continue to challenge themselves and be inspired by artists around them.
