‘To Relinquish’ tells the story of Nate, a war veteran struggling with PTSD. As we take a trip through Nate’s mind, we visit all its darkest corners and its brightest edges, leaving not one dot unseen and not a stone unturned. As Nate cries out for help, in silence and isolation, the audience is shot through an emotional rollercoaster in which the line between sanity and chaos is blurred completely. What is real and what is not? Where does one draw the line? And is it yours to draw?
As Nate is represented by several dancers he becomes genderless, ageless and almost inhuman. He becomes the concept of human pain, need and a physical translation of what we will do to get to it. All this to shine a different light on what war and conflict does to the human soul. ‘To Relinquish’ is not about politics, opinions, desires or sides, it is about the individual. It is about the mass, the lonely person on the corner of the street, the group, the duo and all that lies in between. It is about us, and what we are truly doing to ourselves when no one else is watching.
