An open and vulnerable solo and dialogue about what it means to live with color in the Netherlands.
TINTEN is a small and intimate dialogue performance around the experiences of a dancer of color. How does it feel to live in the Netherlands at this moment? In TINTEN, the personal story of the dancer is interwoven with information about institutional racism. An important part of the performance is the conversation between the dancer and the audience afterwards about the theme. A dialogue. Not a big conversation about politics, but an open and vulnerable one, so that it becomes palpable what it means to live in the Netherlands with a color.
More and more racist structures are being exposed in our society, but the debate quickly becomes heated. People get angry, stick to details and stop listening to each other. In TINTEN, the audience is taken into someone's personal story in an honest and vulnerable way. From very close up. In the process, we also briefly dive into the history of slavery, of exploitation, cheap labor and an unequal system of power that still seeps into our time. A system that disadvantages people of color.
