What if a sense of security is not something “fixed”?
In TIDE, 13 young performers come together in an explosive, rhythmic, and physical performance about the power of water as a source of support in chaotic times.
Everything seems to be shifting. Systems are cracking, certainties are wavering. So we search for something to hold on to, reaching back to what we know. TIDE shows that support does not have to be something ‘fixed’. It reveals water as a force that cannot be held back, that moves, remembers, collides, flows, heals, overwhelms, and always finds a way. Through text, movement, and images, we see the performers searching for a new stance in a chaotic world. Driven by deep sounds and vibrations from hip hop and drum and bass, they bend what seems unbendable, make fluid what appears rigid, and carry the audience toward a new world where the undercurrent rises to the surface.
TIDE is not an answer. It is a leap into the unknown for anyone willing to move without knowing exactly where it will end.
TIDE is a production by the Amsterdam-based theater company DEGASTEN, which believes everyone deserves the space to create and perform. The experiences of young people always form the foundation of their work, offering audiences a unique glimpse into the inner world of future generations.
DEGASTEN creates theatre in Amsterdam with young performers and makers (aged 13–31). The focus is on the development of their acting, movement, imagination, and collaboration skills. It is not only about the final result, but just as much about the process: daring, trying, failing, and starting again.
DEGASTEN works with highly diverse groups in which different backgrounds, ages, and experience levels inspire and strengthen one another. The strength of DEGASTEN lies in guiding young talent within a deeply personal context, often in collaboration with social, artistic, or educational partners.
From this approach emerge theatre productions and experiences with a distinctive artistic signature.
