A high-tech audiovisual experience
Sensing Bodies is the result of a unique collaboration between choreographers Jasper van Luijk and Ruben Chi. This evening you will witness the pieces Pushing Waves and Transcendance.
Pushing Waves addresses the digital sound frequency of a moving body. The dancer, armed with advanced directional microphones, directly influences composer Tom van Wee’s score created at that moment. Jasper van Luijk about Pushing Waves: 'Sound is movement and every movement causes sound. Tom van Wee transforms a simple breath into a 3D sound journey and a footstep into an overpowering beat. I am curious to see what boundaries we can explore in making sound with our body.' Pushing Waves is Van Luijk and Van Wee’s attempt to explore the synergy between sound and body.
A duet between dance and artificial intelligence (AI). In Transcendance, Ruben Chi and artist Bob Sizoo use dance and virtual reality to explore groundbreaking communication between humans, nature and machines. The dancer enters a duet with a digital and optimized version of himself - created via artificial intelligence. A version that transcends human limitations and is not bound by fixed contours or restrictions.
SHIFFT is the Utrecht dance company of choreographer Jasper van Luijk. SHIFFT creates cross-disciplinary, contemporary dance performances about the people of the future. In 2025, SHIFFT will proudly launch a first 'double bill' in collaboration with SoulCypher, the company of artistic director and choreographer Ruben Chi.

"By giving the AI all the necessary ingredients for movement and staging an exploratory game of leading and following, Chi and Sizoo ask practical but philosophical questions about physicality, perception and immersion"
