At Home in the Crooked Housing Market

It’s one of the most talked-about issues of recent years and with good reason: the crooked housing market. The housing shortage is driving people to the brink. We cram ourselves into 7-square-meter broom closets, pour our salaries into rent, and put up with moldy bathrooms because there simply isn’t anything better. In the acrobatic dance performance RUIM, four performers slide, shift, climb and wedge their way through the confines of their limited space. Between slanted walls and stacks of furniture, a world of discomfort unfolds—but so does the explosive resilience and creativity of these twenty-somethings.

Once the dust finally settles, one pressing question remains: what makes a home a home and what are we willing to give up for it?

MAMM is the creative collective of Maxime Abbenhues and Mees Meeuwsen. Together, they create performances about, for, and by twenty-somethings offering a glimpse into a generation that is often misunderstood. MAMM’s work balances (both literally and figuratively) on the line between dance and acrobatics. They love risk, search for moments of humor, and aren’t afraid to hold a critical mirror up to themselves and their peers.

They are currently supported by the Nieuwe Makers scheme (2024–2026) of the Fonds Podiumkunsten, in partnership with Karavaan Festival and SHIFFT. MAMM won Mittelfest 2023, the YAA Award 2024, and was nominated for the Next Step Award 2024.
