Rizoom Atelier

Duration 150 min

Every year, we open the doors of rehearsal spaces and performance halls, inviting you into the creative process of new music. During this evening, you’ll see and hear exclusive previews by young makers developing new work: raw, searching, and very much in progress.

You’ll get a personal behind-the-scenes look: fragments, experiments, and conversations, up close and without gloss. Because new music doesn’t exist without an audience.

Be surprised by makers who ignore genres and labels in their search for new forms and sounds. This is music in the making and you’re right in the middle of it.

Rizoom is a collaboration between Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, Korzo, de Doelen, Intro in Situ, Gaudeamus, November Music, and Asko|Schönberg. By pooling our strengths, expertise, and networks, we support, programme, and facilitate.

This allows us to offer young, talented makers of new music the time, space, and budget to experiment freely, collaborate, and develop their work with fair pay and long-term commitment as core principles.

We seek makers who refuse to be boxed in, music that resists labels or genres and artists in search of new forms and visual languages. What we discover, we share with a young audience that feels underrepresented by the current offering.

In this way, Rizoom makes a distinctive contribution to the landscape of contemporary music and meaningfully supports a new generation of makers at the start of their careers.
