Q5: the Movie & Series

Q5 is inspired by the energy, feeling and expressiveness of Waacking; also known as Whacking or Punking. A dance form that emerged in the 1970s as an expression of oppression in the Latin and African-American LGBTQI+ underground clubs of Los Angeles. Through the sounds and movement language of Waacking, the 5 performers in the film dive into the 5th dimension. They explore different colors, portals, perspectives and worlds within worlds. All in search of the essence: The Quintessentials! 

Q5 won the Audience Award Best Documentary 2024 at Cinedans Festival!

From Dance Theater to Dance Film
The original live dance theater tour of 2021 was canceled due to covid and transformed into Q5 The Movie (Series). 5 Dance theater scenes with added content behind and beyond the whack, where you get to know the performers, their mission statements and the history of the dance culture and community. 

Q5 is an unique experience capturing culture, dance, music and personal stories taking you on a multidimensional colorful journey, Celebrating ALL!

1. THE RED EPISODE starring INA | “ I AM BECAUSE WE ARE ”
   In The Red Episode we dive into the Roots of the dance. An expression born out of oppression. We explore how structural oppression colored the lives of the original creators and how they had to search for and create an underground safe space to express themselves authentically.
2. THE ORANGE & YELLOW EPISODE starring TAMARA | “ EXPLORE, EXPERIENCE, FEEL & EXPRESS ”
   In The Orange & Yellow Episode we dive into the emotional expression, inspiration and creativity of the dance. We also explore the representation, identity and exposure the original creators received and in return created through their expression.
3. THE GREEN EPISODE starring SARITA | “ ALL IS ONE & ONE IS ALL ”In The Green Episode we dive into the Heart of the matter. Resonating to the paradox of life and how duality lives within Unity. We move with the natural cycles of life & death and explore the disappearance & resurgence of the dance. Always tuning into and honoring the Essence of the Essence!
4. THE BLUE & INDIGO EPISODE starring SHAHIN | “ CELEBRATE YOURSELF AND BE UNEQUIVOCALLY YOU ”
   In The Blue Episode we dive into the evolution and growth of the dance internationally and how the culture helps us evolve and grow as well. Teaching us to deconstruct our minds, perspectives, beliefs and use our voice unapologetically!
5. THE PURPLE EPISODE starring OTION | “ TUNE INTO THE HIGHEST VERSION OF YOURSELF AND GO BEYOND “
   In The Purple Episode we dive into the highest version of our future, dream visions & essence. Making a full circle back to red and up again. Asking the questions: What is the essence and how can we preserve and protect that to take to our future dream visions for the dance, culture, community & BEYOND! 

Sarita is a professional dancer, choreographer, theater maker, teacher & coach and started w*acking in 2009 falling deeply in love with this free form of expression. She studied in NYC and travelled the world learning and sharing her love for this style, culture and community. As one of the first in her country The Netherlands she takes her role as trailblazer/pioneer to heart protecting and preserving it in the best way possible. Sarada Sarita is always open to learning, sharing and tuning into the Essence of the Essence; The Quintessentials!
