Gabbers. One of the biggest, most outspoken, and most underrated subcultures in the Netherlands. In Ode to the Gabber, you meet a hair-hanging gabber (raver) who takes serious risks. Melinda makes it unmistakably clear: being a gabber is the ultimate escape from bourgeois rules, loneliness, and the mediocre daily grind we’re all forced to navigate.

We see The Hague firefighter, circus performer, and gabber Melinda Meijs suspended high above the ground by her hair, attached to a long rope. Through acrobatics, she takes us inside the mind of a gabber. While hanging, she elevates the unmistakable gabber dance style hakken to the next level, showcasing every style of hardcore music and smashing the stigma surrounding gabbers.
