Hypnotic light installation with music by Steve Reich
You don't usually hear names like Eefje de Visser, Björk and Doja Cat in Korzo, but they all have someone in common: Nick Verstand. This Dutch artist makes light installations for live shows for all these marquee artists. Now he comes to Korzo: with the New European Ensemble, Nick created a hypnotic performance around the composition Double Sextet by Steve Reich.
Nick Verstand’s light art has been described as 'stunning and inventive', allowing visitors to 'escape from the grey reality', according to Theaterkrant. His light installations are popular with a young audience; he has already been asked to create light art for the MTV Music Video Awards, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and SXSW. Nick builds his own hardware and software for his light installations so that they respond to and play along with live music without delay. His previous works Anima and Within Without show a magnetic force that matches the ritual drive in Reich's groundbreaking music, generated by the shifting rhythmic patterns inspired by West African percussion.
"'Everything is balanced out in this enchanting mix of minimal music, lighting design, electronics and live music.'"
