But how beautiful is life there really?

Floyd, Kevin, and Dwayne dream of Surinam. From their apartment stylishly decorated with a tropical flair in cold climes of the Netherlands, they visualise a land where everything is different: warmer, more relaxed, more musical. That’s where they want to go.

For two of the three friends, Surinam is the motherland they know from stories from the family; for the third, Surinam is an exotic, transatlantic fantasy land. But how idyllic is life there really?  How visible are the traces of colonialism and slavery? And how free would these boys feel with their queer lifestyle? In colours, now sweet, and now bright and hard, the three friends paint the land of their desires.

Naar Paramaribo (To Paramaribo) is a swinging political comedy, where between the rosy sweet-talk and coziness, hard truths are told about freedom, responsibility, and tolerance.
