Amour. The most beautiful word to exist. The Senegalese dance maker Alioune Diagne looks for love again and again, and continues to question it, shake it, and examine it again.

Love is a power that connects people, and goes beyond countries and cultures. In the personal and intimate dance solo Amour Amour Amour, Alioune Diagne makes the different facets of love recognisable. Love as a spiritual source that moves you and can make you more the furthest point. As a source of energy that can charge you. But also love that goes with separation. Of a child that leaves the parental home one day. Of partners that need to let each other go. Of moving to a totally new culture. A personal story of Alioune Diagne in which a Senegalese past is taken to a new future. Let yourself be immersed in love and travel with him.

Amour Amour Amour is Diagne’s third production on this topic. The first version, Amour, was an homage to dancer and choreographer Maurice Béjart. The second version, Amour Amour, was an ode to the stateless Mauritian dancer Pape Fall. Amour Amour Amour is the first production of the maker that will be performed in the Netherlands.

When you have infinite access to digital information

Two humanoids are created to take over the world. They take you into their world of infinite access to (digital) information which can also lead to infoxication: information stress, which might cause you to make the wrong decisions.

Argil and Hassani grew up together in Suriname. They are now well-known names in the battle scene; by participating in it themselves, organizing battles and giving workshops. Besides their own development in dance, they teach at various dance schools.

In the mime solo Victory Boogie Woogie, Charles Pas places himself in a dystopian in-between space to explore what it means when you have to constantly rig yourself up. As a lost young man, he confronts the mundane, trying to tame it and look for all that lies behind it. What does it mean when you can't find a connection, dejection takes over, but you have no choice but to keep going?  

In this performance, where the strength lies in the minimal use of theatrical means, Charles is in dialogue with a fully sampled soundscape of the soundtrack of city life. Victory Boogie Woogie is a dynamic trip in which, through flashes of a life in the city, an ever-expanding picture reveals itself to the viewer. The threat of radicalising the individual is constantly lurking.

Charles Pas (Belgium, 1998) is a maker of physical, visual theatre-performances. For him, movement is the way to address audiences directly on their experience and feelings. In his performances, he searches for forms and narratives that touch and represent the existential dilemmas of today. His work moves somewhere between performance, absurd theatre and magical realism. His performances are always an ode to the transitory nature of performance and theatre: the spectator is part of a palpably fragile, sensory perception that exists only in that moment. Thus, each time he unveils something of the present condition humaine. The main dualities in his work are utopia and dystopia, chaos and control, victim and aggressor, connection and displacement. 

Met What Lies Beneath stelt theatermaker Veerle van Overloop de destructieve kracht van beperkte en simplistische berichtgeving door onze media aan de kaak. Door de versmelting van een actuele theatertekst met ongepolijste dans, een indringende soundscape, live graffiti en videokunst kruipt What Lies Beneath onder de huid. Een confronterende docu-performance over grote oorlogen en gruweldaden die het nieuws niet halen, het schemergebied tussen feit en fictie.

Dwars door de overprikkeling van de almaar uitdijende informatiestroom breken krachtige, alledaagse acties van de danser. Daar tegenover staan de adembenemende bewegingen van een elektrisch geladen dier. Het persoonlijke en politieke, het gevecht en de overgave krijgen vorm in een virtuoze zoektocht naar veelzeggende bewegingen.

What Lies Beneath is een samenwerking met een aantal jonge, zeer getalenteerde performers zoals de Australische danseres Olympia Kotopoulos, de veelzijdige kunstenaar uit Glasgow Robbie Thomson, graffiti kunstenaar Jelle Valk van het Groningse collectief WERC en actrice Nadège Ouedraogo uit Burkina Faso. De Britse schrijfster en voormalig BBC – correspondente Lara Pawson schreef speciaal voor dit project de theatertekst.

Tijdens de creatie van dit werk heeft choreograaf Spencer Dickhaus herhaaldelijk verwezen naar de Autobiografie of Red (1998) van de Canadese dichteres Anne Cason: hij voelde zich aangetrokken tot het onconventionele spel met genres, namelijk poëzie en roman, om een aangrijpend coming of age-verhaal te herscheppen. 

 In Recess staan vervorming van de tijd, conflicterende genres en de verschillende emoties die voortkomen uit levensveranderingen wanneer we van het ene stadium naar het andere gaan, centraal. En een van de belangrijkste emotionele ervaringen van deze stadia is de fysieke ervaring van schaamte, zoals de schaamte die zich voordoet bij de overgang van kindertijd naar adolescentie.

 Net als bij poëzie ontstaat betekenis in de dans in de onverwachte botsingen tussen wat we herkennen in ons lichaam en de verschuivingen van de creatieve mogelijkheden binnen hetzelfde lichaam; dat, ook al zoekt men er naar, weerstand biedend aan traditionele verhalen. In deze spanningsveld ligt de interesse van Spencer.

 Hij hoopt dat de kijker zich verbonden voelt met een beeld, een muzikaal moment, een herinnering aan een relatie of aan een overgangsmoment in zijn leven, waar men de ongemakkelijkheid van het niet weten wat zijn lichaam deed tot het een nieuwe persoon werd gevormd.
