Femke Gyselinck’s dance alphabet

Can you dance a letter? And if so, is there such a thing as a ‘dance alphabet’? And can you write a dance just like that? Femke Gyselinck read the iconic poetry collection ABECEDA (1926), delved into research for 'a dance analysis' of the alphabet and published her own dance alphabet in CHARACTER. The next step in this creative search is Letters 2 Dance, a performance that finds Femke investigating the relationship between movement & typography and dance & type images.

Letters 2 Dance translates that book to the stage. The solidified letters, depicted as photographed poses, regain their movement, clump together into words, and search for meaning. The performance explores the possibility of 'literally' writing dance, pushing the boundaries of that metaphor. Letters 2 Dance challenges you to participate in a game of deciphering, with three dancers (Femke Gyselinck, Sue-Yeon Youn, Luka Švajda) and an eclectic live soundtrack composed by Liese Van Der Aa.
