Festival Dag in de Branding: I May Fall into the Sound

Duration 105 min
Part of Festival Dag in de Branding

Dag in de Branding presents: I May Fall into the Sound, a double bill with Show Pony and SKETCH351

During the Dag in de Branding Festival, The Hague’s venues, the Residentie Orkest, and various ensembles introduce us to music that is so new and diverse, offering a fascinating cross-section of today’s sound. Explore performances across the city, meet today’s composers, and discuss their inspirations and intentions with the musicians.

At Korzo, experience a double bill featuring dreamy yet unsettling experimental pop music from Show Pony and new work from SKETCH351.

Laura Nygren is Show Pony, and Show Pony is: “Like Björk on a good day.” This American double bassist, singer, and producer creates dreamy music inspired by Kate Bush and Radiohead—as if both had first traveled to the future to gather inspiration.

Warm, sometimes unsettling voices flow over beats that are both crackling and serene. Show Pony performs a selection of songs, including tracks from her album I May Fall into the Sound. The album is inspired by human vulnerability in the midst of a climate crisis, centered around the island of Massancummock, which will likely be completely gone by 2026. Music delivered with classical precision that draws you in completely, while constantly keeping you off balance—much like the future itself.

More about Laura

Laura is an American double bassist, singer, and producer now living in the Netherlands. As a sound artist, she weaves together bass, delicate melodies, and electronic textures, creating an experimental pop universe that feels intimate and cinematic.

She performs with ensembles including Sinfonia Rotterdam and the Berlin-based s t a r g a z e, and co-founded projects such as the new-music trio T R O M P O and the indie-folk duo Woo Girls. She has toured with Soap&Skin and participated in writing sessions with Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz) and Simon Tong (The Verve). Her debut EP was created in collaboration with producer No Compliments.

As a maker-in-residence at Dag in de Branding, this idiosyncratic contemporary music ensemble presents brand-new work inspired by the Fluxus movement of the 1960s and ’70s. This means that the process of creating music is guided by Chance, making each performance truly unique.

SKETCH351 playfully and accessibly blends art with everyday experiences. They use the specific location of their performance, whether a bus or a concert hall, as an active part of the music itself. Each performance is therefore different, offering new musical combinations and surprising twists.

More about SKETCH351

SKETCH351 describes themselves as: “Just a group of musicians trying not to fall into a collective identity crisis while carving their path through today’s music scene.” But in reality, they know exactly what they’re doing—and you’ll hear it too.
