Brand-new work by rising choreography talents
HWLAN by Korzo and NDT is the place where tomorrow's dance takes shape. Many choreographers who are now essential to the Dutch dance scene, once created boundary-breaking work here. This edition, you’ll witness how Lea Ved, Fay van Baar, and Tú Hoàng push themselves beyond their own creative limits. And this is how it happens:
The pressure-cook concept
You're a choreographer and you have one month to create a new performance. You start digging for that one story that still needs to be told. That of the world, that of yourself. The days fly by. You search for movements, for the feeling they convey and their place in space. Then the doubts arise. Time ticks away. A month is far too short! There is no more room for yes, but. Only your gut feeling remains – and something beautiful emerges. With this piece, you show another side of yourself. The audience watches breathlessly. So vulnerable. So special. Here and now.
Collaboration with Nederlands Dans Theater
Here we live and now is the moment to meet new makers from the dance scene. Every year, Korzo and Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) invite three makers to create within a short creation process a short performance.
Makers
Lea Ved
Lea Ved (1991) is a dancer, choreographer, a Korzo artist-in-residence and originally from the United States. She danced for many years with the Royal Swedish Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater and has previously created work for Korzo and CaDance Festival amongst others. Lea's work is playful and intuitive. For this performance, she is collaborating with her former colleague Spencer Dickhaus, also a dancer who has worked with NDT.
Tú Hoàng
Tú Hoàng (1988) is a choreographer and dancer from Hanoi, Vietnam, and also a Korzo artist-in-residence. In his choreographies, Tú attempts to blend his Eastern background in Kung Fu and Tai Chi with Western dance genres such as hip hop, ballet, and contemporary dance. His goalis to bring a unique artistic identity to life. In this HWLAN performance, his Vietnamese roots are given free rein to breathe with an entirely Vietnamese team.
Fay van Baar
Fay van Baar (1995) danced with the NDT from 2015 to 2024 and has worked with many world-renowned choreographers such as Paul Lightfoot, Sol Leon, Jiri Kilian and Sharon Eyal.
