Here we Live and Now

Duration 90 min
Part of Here we live and now

It’s happening here and now in dance city The Hague

Here we live and now is the moment to meet new makers from the dance scene. Every year, Korzo and Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) invite three makers to create within a short creation process a short performance. This year, we also welcome a maker from The Place in London: Yukiko Masui. And our very own artist-in-residence ConstantinTrommlitz followed an eigth-month residency at K3 – Centre for Choreography | Tanzplan Hamburg for his upcoming piece 'Antibodies' that will premiere during Here We Live And Now.

Korzo, The Place, and K3 – Centre for Choreography | Tanzplan Hamburg are all members of European Dance Development Network (EDN). EDN is a network of dance development organisations in Europe, cooperating for a sustainable, progressive, and equitable field of contemporary dance.

The following makers present new work: Constantin Trommlitz (Korzo), Yukiko Masui (The Place) and Charlie Skuy (NDT). Together, their pieces form a varied evening of dance.

Charlie Skuy | To be announced shortly

Yukiko Masui | RONIN 0

Enter the world of RONiN 0, a powerful, 20 minute adaptation of the full-length performance RONiN, where dance, swordplay, and cutting-edge digital projections come together to tell the story of a fearless female swordfighter navigating a path of honour, resilience, and survival.

Inspired by Japan's ronin—masterless samurai bound only by their personal code—this performance follows a lone woman fighter as she confronts powerful adversaries, challenging both her strength and spirit in a male-dominated world.

Through powerful choreography, RONiN 0 takes audiences on a journey through Japan’s four seasons, each reflecting a new chapter of the heroine’s story. From the bloom of spring's cherry blossoms to the quiet snows of winter, each season mirrors the changing landscapes of her inner and outer battles.

Directed by award-winning choreographer Yukiko Masui, RONiN 0 combines contemporary dance with the striking precision of martial artistry, embodying the spirit of a warrior who stands alone. This performance blends traditional themes with dynamic movement, creating a compelling exploration of identity, resilience, and defiance in the face of adversity.

Constantin Trommlitz | Antibodies

“Antibodies“ transmits the raw honesty and reality of pain. Two dancers share their unfiltered relationship with pain - sometimes isolated in suffering, sometimes finding care and acceptance in each other. Constantin transforms the limitation of pain into a motor for self-expression and virtuosity.

The duet merges elements of Breaking and Contemporary dance into an innovative movement language that emphasizes the sensitive relationship between the dancers and their own stories of pain.

This season we are offering a number of performances where you choose the price. Through “pay what you can”, people who have less to spend still get the chance to see a performance. Visitors who have more to spend can choose a slightly higher price that this system makes possible. In this way we make the barrier lower for people who are unsure about the ticket price and invite other visitors to join us in using their means for the benefit of another. And even more people can enjoy our performances.

When you buy tickets for these performances, you choose the price type you can spare. So you don't have to buy a pass or follow a special route. You just choose the price that suits you and that can be a different price next time. You're not stuck with anything.

On December 18th we offer "pay what you can".

His work has earned him awards, such as the Copenhagen International Choreography Competition. For his duet KEVIN he won the Conny Janssen Danst partner Award during the RIDCC 2023, performed with Emmitt Cawley.

Charlie also self-directed and produced numerous dance films and has recently been awarded in CINEDANS ’23 (film/choreography). He was asked by Canada’s National Ballet School in 2017 to create for Assemble Internationale and in 2023, was commissioned to make a full-length work with three older dancers at Origen Festival (Switzerland). Charlie’s passion for filmmaking, dance theater, visual art, and dreamlogic (David Lynch) opens several worlds and imagery in which he explores his relationship with fear, dissonance and aging.

Constantin Trommlitz | Korzo

Constantin Trommlitz (1996) is a German dancer, choreographer and filmmaker. His background in movement is in breakdance, an artform he cites as the prime influence on his work. After coming to The Netherlands, he started performing for many different companies, including Danstheater AYA, ISH Collective and many more. Since 2022, Constantin has been an individual artist in residency at Korzo.

Along this journey, Constantin met Zino Schat, the founder of Fractal Collective. He supported the collective for many years with both his performance and film work. Searching for his own identity as a maker, Constantin found that his knowledge and abilities in both dance and film can be merged in unconventional ways to tell personal stories.
