The hit show about love, fame and recognition returns!
The show previously premiered online in 2021 because of Covid, now it will return live to theaters.
At the time, Korzo maker Antonin Rioche could count on some amazing reviews in NRC, De Volkskrant and Het Parool, which praised Glitter for its "theatrical and bombastic" character, as well as the "delightful performers" Grace Lyell, Ève-Marie Dalcourt and Toon Lobach. Finn Ronsdorf - a singer-songwriter from Berlin - was named "the Berlin Rufus Wainwright" by 3voor12 and is steadily building his career.
About Glitter
Glitter is a choreographed composition about love, fame and recognition. It lures us into our childhood in which everything is still possible and dreams have not yet vanished. A melancholic glimpse into lost moments propels the work forward. “The real paradises are the paradise we lost” said Proust. With a hint of humour, the cast of performers embodies intimate memories of dreams that have long been behind us. In Glitter, stardom beckons and puts it in sharp contract with reality. Flirting with tragic burlesque, they take us to what we all recognize: the illusion of greatness that enchants us all.
The choice of Korzo & NDT
Since 2013, Korzo and Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) have joined forces in order to support new choreographic talent. Every year they select extraordinary talent to create a full-evening performance that then goes on tour. Antonin Rioche has been chosen for 2022. Fernando Magadan, Iván Pérez, Amos Ben-Tal, Joeri Dubbe, Samir Calixto, Marina Mascarell and Jiri Pokorny preceded him.
Glitter is part of Holland Dance Festival.
Antonin Rioche (1994) is a French storyteller, director, choreographer, and writer. He finds interest in all art forms, particularly in photography, film and fashion. Antonin creates through different lenses of expression. Movement is the root of creation, but not automatically its starting point. His work often departs from writing a text that translates his thoughts, emotions and personal experiences. From there, poetic interpretations emerge about general human emotions.
Antonin always approaches his creations by being in a constant dialogue with his inner world and seeing beauty in every outcome: ‘As long as you invest your time, focus and leave space for contemplation and growth, beauty will emerge organically.’ Since 2018, Antonin has been a house choreographer at Korzo theater in Den Haag, The Netherlands, with his works being supported by NDT & Holland Dance Festival. During this journey he had the opportunity to create The Others and Finally a Sign of Life for the Korzo yearly program; Here We Live and Now. In 2021, Antonin created Huidhonger, a piece for Conny Janssen Danst. In that same year he was invited by Korzo and Nederlands Dans Theater to create his first full-evening performance; Glitter, a questioning on fame, acknowledgement and the fear of time passing by. In 2022, he premiered a new full-length performance, co-produced by Nederlands Dans Theater called Ohgirl!, an intimate solo piece about anxiety and the fear of missing out, questioning the weight that people sometimes carry on our shoulders.
Antonin loves cinema and draws a lot of his inspiration from filmmaking. He is also known as a short film director, as he likes to translate his dance pieces into cinematic experiences, like – for example – Finally a Sign of Life and The Research Project; The Leftovers. Both were selected to be screened during Cinedans and Dance Days Chania in 2022. Antonin is very interested and actively involved in the development of educational programs by teaching and choreographing for schools and workshops.
Raised in a small village in the Black Forest, he discovers at an early age that there is more to life than the dictated path and that you can only find it within yourself. Finn's songs question the concept of love based on jealousy and possession.
From Jan. 24 through Feb. 17, 2024, the Holland Dance Festival presents (inter)national dance performances for the nineteenth time in The Hague, Delft, Tilburg and Rotterdam. More info: https://www.holland-dance.com/en/
