Movement as a time machine in an interactive dance experience
Future Dance of Nostalgia is an interactive dance game by visual artist Kexin Hao that explores the body as an archive of the past. The choreography is inspired by movements drawn from physically demanding labor in ancient China, as well as the traditional work songs that accompanied it. Through pounding club beats and motion-tracking technology, your own movements become part of the game. Come dance and discover how the past can come alive, here and now, in your body.
Feel the rhythms of vanished labor
Work songs once gave rhythm to repetitive labor through singing and rhythmic calls, helping people coordinate and work together more effectively. Born in Beijing, Kexin conducted extensive research into these songs and the movements connected to them. The result is a unique glimpse into the ways our bodies once moved together within forms of production that have since disappeared.
Reimagine history through connection
By bringing together dance, game technology, visuals, and music, Future Dance of Nostalgia allows the past to come alive in your own body. It is a playful shared experience. Whether you join in or simply watch, the piece invites you to move together, connect with each other, have fun, and discover a new way of looking at history.
