From no idea at all to unearthing a musical gem
Can music be friendly? Just a question that crossed the mind of Irish composer Andrew Hamilton. Hamilton likes to ask himself such impossible questions. Because that creates the freedom to have no idea what you are doing. And that is exactly where the coincidental gems in music arise. Friendly Piece is his most personal piece and is played with passion by the Hague Ensemble Klang. Fluttering wings of a bird, sacred texts that save you, an obsession with The Sound of Music. Cut up, shuffled and then glued back together. With a new lighting design by Pavla Beranov. Welcome friend.
Andrew Hamilton (born in Dublin in 1977) studied in Ireland, England and the Netherlands. He was taught by Kevin Volans, Anthony Gilbert and Louis Andriessen, among others. Recent works by him have been performed by the Ives Ensemble, Orkest De Volharding and orkest de ereprijs. He also wrote a series of chamber music works that were performed at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, where he was a fellow from 2005 to 2006. Currently working on new compositions for Crash Ensemble and the Irish Chamber Orchestra.
