In the sensory and musical performance Dreamscapes, Sounding Bodies takes us on a quest toward another reality. Dreamscapes is an intimate, immersive experience in which new music, movement, and sensory impressions merge into a space where we are invited to dream.

This performance explores the power of slowing down, embracing ambiguity, and engaging in collective imagination as a counter-voice to a society dominated by speed, efficiency, and constant productivity. In doing so, it creates a temporary community in which personal and shared dreams are given room to unfold.

These days, everything seems so controllable and solvable. We want to have the right answer ready, immediately understand how something works, and express our opinion straight away. But what does that actually bring us? According to Sounding Bodies, it is high time we look at the world with more wonder — and begin to see dreams, just like we once did, as natural, subconscious guides.

Please bring your own mat, blanket, or cushion so you can experience the performance comfortably. For visitors who cannot lie down easily, or who have another physical limitation, chairs will of course be available.

Starting from John Cage’s In a Landscape, a layered world of sound and movement unfolds, one that invites slowing down, attentive listening, and surrender to the imagination.

Four performers guide up to fifty visitors at a time through a cyclical, associative dreamscape where sound, light, scent, and touch come together.

Composer Aart Strootman weaves Cage’s musical material into a spatial, acoustic dream environment set within a fluid, continuously shifting scenography.

Lie down, breathe, and let the world soften for a while.

Sounding Bodies is something special. Boundary-pushing, innovative, and open-minded. Rooted in the cultural sector as creators of musical and multidisciplinary theater performances, they always operate with a societal vision and mission. That’s why they often look beyond the theater walls, collaborating with other sectors such as healthcare and business. Themes in Sounding Bodies’ work include the impact of music on emotions and well-being, building connections, attention, and listening. In everything they do, artistic quality comes first.

The heart of Sounding Bodies is formed by artistic director Jacqueline Hamelink, managing director Paulien Mandos, and education specialist Anke van Esch. They work closely with a core group of dedicated creators. Together, they guide an organization that continuously connects art and society.
