Bodies of Work

Duration 60 min

Who makes the decisions here: body or mind? Bodies of Work searches for a new balance and puts body and mind in the right place.

Choreographers Liat Waysbort and duo Lara & Aviva searched for answers with their dancers over the past months. During this double bill they present the final result of these Get Moving trajectories, in two totally different performances about mind & matter.

Life is a never ending work in progress. Just when you think you're in a smooth flow, someone or something disrupts your path and it is up to you to bounce back. How we coope with these interuptions impacts our flow. Do you dodge, hide or jump over hurdles? Do you embrace them or do they leave a big impact? Do you want life to go back just to the way it was, or do we let it inspire us into new paths? Everybody has their own way of being resilient and returning to their flow. Their own habit of being themselves.
In her new choreography, choreographer Liat Waysbort draws inspiration from the book Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Dr. Joe Dispenza. This book delves into the connection between mind and matter. Liat brings the tools and ideas in this book to life on stage and seeks to capture the moment of change. Step by step, she takes us through the process of creation versus survival and invites dancers and spectators alike to apply the insights from the book and make real, measurable changes in our lives.

A performance about the relationship between the mind and the body. About the connection, or perhaps more accurately, the disconnection between the two. Have we become walking heads? Is the body now just a means of transport for the brain? The brain walks to the laptop and back to bed. From 9 to 5, day in and out. There's hardly any time to feel and listen to your body. What is the function of our body in this time?

From Tel Aviv to Rotterdam, Liat Waysbort has taken the dance world by storm with her undeniable talent and creativity. After her impressive career with the Batsheva Dance Company, she graduated from the CoDarts Dance Academy in Rotterdam and founded her own dance organization: Bitter Sweet Dance.

Besides being a choreographer, Liat is also a passionate and inspired teacher at the Theateracademie Amsterdam. This is how she shares her knowledge and experience with the next generation of dance makers. Her classes are a source of inspiration, in which she encourages students to find their artistic voice and explore their physical potential.

Choreographers Lara and Aviva have shared an inspiring collaboration for several years. Fun fact: this collaboration started when they themselves danced at Get Moving!

Their work often has a theatrical twist where serious themes are approached in a light-hearted way using humor. Their movement language can be described as dynamic, vibrant and physical, and consists mainly of contemporary dance with influences from club and street styles.

Working with professional creators and discovering and developing your talent. Those are the Young Talent programs of Get Moving, for young people between the ages of 15 and 25. Would you like to participate? Keep an eye on our website for more information!
