How to play beautiful music without ever touching your instrument
Playing an instrument without touching it? Yes, you can: with the HyperTheremin by Dutch composer and performer Jan-Bas Bollen. Live, it looks like a mix of conducting and choreography. And what that sounds like? Hear it in his show BIOMORFICA!
In BIOMORFICA, Jan-Bas Bollen plays the HyperTheremin with a precise hand choreography to create compelling, fluid animations. He stimulates our senses and guides our experience of time and space towards an ambiguous terrain between the organic and the digital. Form and gesture are interpreted and transformed into audiovisual poetry with rich sound and image projections that reveal our complex relationship to technology.
Jan-Bas has been performing internationally since 2020 with his fascinating, elusive instrument in a fusion of composition, improvisation and instrumentalism. With BIOMORFICA, he brings this new art form to Korzo for the first time.
Jan-Bas Bollen works internationally as a composer/performer, collaborating with soloists, ensembles, dance and theatre makers, often using live electronics, visuals and cutting-edge technology. He recently composed for Nicholas Isherwood, Orgelpark, David Kweksilber Big Band, pianist Gerard Bouwhuis and NAP, Slagwerkgroep Den Haag, Ensemble Klang and singer Elaine Mitchener. With composer Alison Isadora, he forms the cross-media duo SYNC and is involved in setting up local projects and workshops in which amateurs and professional musicians create performances together.
