Beyond the Triangle
| Duration | 60 min |
No, this performance doesn’t tell a story. Inspired by the women-led resistance of Iran’s Woman, Life, Freedom movement, it reveals moments of vulnerability and resilience in the search for freedom. A special collaboration between two female makers who draw on their Iranian roots and their view of the world to create boundary-pushing art.
In Beyond the Triangle, we take our place in a space filled with the voices of Iranian female poets from different generations, wrapped in layers of vocals, percussion, cello, electronic music, field recordings, and dance. Poetry becomes sound, sound becomes movement, and movement becomes memory. Beyond the Triangle is raw and refined but above all, it invites you to experience the performance in your own way and find new forms of resistance through art. After all, isn’t that the purest form of freedom and connection?
Sanam Tahmasebi is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and maker. Born and raised in Tehran, she studied classical music, jazz, and composition in Iran, Italy, the US, and the Netherlands, developing a voice that blends tradition with experimental and contemporary forms.
Her work weaves voice, sound, movement, and text together, often combining Persian sounds with electro-acoustic experimentation, improvisation, and extended vocal techniques. She works both solo and in collaboration with dancers, visual artists, and theater makers, exploring themes such as memory, nature, transformation, expression, and resistance, with the voice often at the center.
Her compositions create layered musical worlds rooted in personal and shared stories. She performs at festivals such as Oerol and Into the Great Wide Open, and collaborates with companies and collectives including Het Houten Huis, Club Guy & Roni, Hi-Lo, and Spinbarg.
Roshanak Morrowatian is a dancer, performer, and choreographer. In 2020, she won the BNG Bank Dansprijs for Polished and the Nederlandse Dansdagen prize for her solo Kites. She has performed in works by Marina Abramović, Pina Bausch, and Bodytalk/Yoshiko Waki, and appeared in films by Wiam Al-Zabari and Julie Sando. As a choreographer, she has created work for the Dutch National Opera, the schrit_tmacher Festival, SALLY Dansgezelschap Maastricht, and the World Music Contest.
Her multifaceted work explores themes of identity, boundaries, and belonging. She investigates the physicality of memories, the fluidity of traditions, and what it means to live and move between cultures and places. She also teaches as a guest lecturer at the Amsterdam University of the Arts.
