The heroic power of anger
Anger is 'a guest who is only welcome under strict conditions', says philosopher Peter Sloterdijk. But it is also a changing, creative and even heroic force. Those who explode become one with their impulses, unshackled from their doubts.
In BAMBIE 20, anger is given free reign in absurdist, physical enlargements with recognizable features. The three figures on stage are overcome with rage and their attacks create a non-stop, joyful and liberating conflict lasting an hour and a half. They indulge in all possible forms of implosions and explosions. On each other, on themselves, on life in general, on the news and on the interior.
The players/creators of BAMBIE 20, Gerindo Katardinata, Paul van der Laan and Jochem Stavenuiter, previously made BAMBIE 6 and BAMBIE 8, both of which won the VSCD-Mime Prize. Sound magician Wim Conradi scores the performance both rhythmically and musically.
Bambie has been making mind blowing, moving physical theatre for about 15 years. Actors work up a sweat while their imagination runs wild. At Bambie, throwing your weight around can go hand in hand with poetic choreography. This is theatre conceived 'on the floor, molded by the very bodies of the players. What starts with big themes and big feelings ends in chases, emergency jumps, mock fights and comfort rituals.
The founders and core members of Bambie, Paul van der Laan and Jochem Stavenuiter, started numbering their performances when they were still at the Mime School, and have kept it up since. All Bambie performances that frequently perform at home and abroad are archived and kept in the repertoire. During the Bambierambam, the group's very own festival, many of the group’s performances are shown in succession. Bambie has received the VSCD Mime Prize several times and has also received international fanfare. For good measure, Bambie is back! received a VSCD Mime Prize 2018 nomination.
