Maker Andreas Hannes
Duration 60 min
Part of No Lonely Dance Floors

[Anthology comes from the Greek anthología, meaning a collection of flowers]

An infectious performance built around one simple movement: skipping
For almost ten (!) years, choreographer Andreas Hannes has been exploring the phenomenon of skipping. In Anthology, he joins four dancers in unleashing a rhythmic whirlwind of movement full of resilience, melancholy, and skipping. Driven by mash-ups of pop music from the past decade, they move through countless dance styles, histories of dance, and internet cultures. Skipping becomes a form of resistance – a way to stay in motion amid an overwhelming flow of images and sound. Let yourself go in this hypnotic celebration and you might just find yourself skipping along.

An energetic collection of folk dance, ballet, club dance, and hip-hop
On stage, dance histories built on skipping merge into one another: from folk dance to ballet, and from club dance to hip-hop. Skipping becomes a thread that connects styles of dance, popular visual culture, and internet culture, continually transforming Korzo itself into an ice rink, a sports field, and a ballroom. The mash-up soundtrack combines dozens of pop hits at high speed, weaving familiar hooks and beats into an accelerating surge of energy.

A useful tool in an overwhelming world
Anthology proposes a way of moving through information overload in a rapidly changing society driven by exhaustion. We experience how pop culture functions as a shared rhythm of our time – one we all move to together. Discover this living archive that connects generations through movement, music, and collective memory.

Andreas Hannes (1987) grew up in Greece, where he studied classical percussion before moving to the Netherlands to build a career as a filmmaker and choreographer. He graduated from SDNO in 2019 with The City and has since developed an ongoing, interconnected body of work centered around skipping and related movement practices. He was awarded the BNG Dance Prize (2020) and was selected for Aerowaves (2022).

Andreas developed a distinctive movement practice in which he explored rhythm, gravity, environment, and vibration. His work shifts between dance, music, and visual art, with a focus on generating new forms of movement.
