Faizah Grootens creates physical, instinctive dance rooted in her Caribbean heritage. Her movement language is shaped by the spine, with waves, spirals and sudden shifts travelling through the body. She plays with weight, sensuality and physical tension, creating movement that can feel both grounded and expansive. 

Her work explores what happens when the body refuses to conform: when it follows its own impulses, takes up space and searches for connection. Her performances move between power and vulnerability, control and surrender. A gesture can grow into something expansive, while a moment of stillness can carry as much weight as a burst of movement. 

Caribbean influences are present not as a historical reference, but as part of a living physical language. Faizah’s work feels personal, charged and constantly in motion. She invites audiences to experience the body as a place of freedom, resistance and self-expression, and to recognise the possibilities that emerge when we allow ourselves to move differently.
