CaDance Festival goes online!
As a consequence of the extension of the lockdown in The Netherlands thru 9 February, the CaDance festival cannot welcome its visitors physically in the theatres. This unfortunately means that a part of the programming must be cancelled. In anticipation of this scenario, preparations have been underway for some time for a major online version of the festival that is a springboard for dance makers, that cherishes experienced choreographers, and that, starting this year, expands its program with circus and physical theatre.
We welcome the public online in the brand new Korzo Studio X (x.korzo.nl). Studio X will be Korzo’s new online presentation space in 3D, with features such as a theatre space and, from 28 January thru 7 February, the special CaDance pop up space. The public can enjoy a contemporary program with livestreams of premieres, wonderful podcasts, and live broadcasts from the media cafe.
What is possible
Livestreams premiere performances
Challenging these challenging times, a total of six premieres can be seen on livestream during CaDance; Duda Paiva, together with the young Fractal Collective, will perform the opening night/world premiere of Sonatinas 4 Feet. The French Antonin Rioche presents, in partnership with Korzo and the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), his first full-length performance Glitter, which is planned for a tour throughout the Netherlands. Krisztina de Châtel presents Feminale, a double bill program about the power of women with a new work by De Châtel and promising Korzo choreographer Astrid Boons.
Sarada Sarita won the 2019 BNG Bank Dance Prize and returns with Q5~The Quintessentials time featuring the club style waacking. Q5 is also scheduled for a Dutch tour after CaDance. Dunja Jocic presents De Panter, the sequel to The Resident, based on Rilke’s poem of the same name. Marina Mascarell presents the premiere of Bird Dog with one dancer live from CaDance’s hometown The Hague and three others from the streets of Tokyo, Lissabon and New York.
In addition, there will be a showing of Memory Loss Inside by Ann Van den Broek, this is a special film version of her latest performance Memory Loss. We also open the doors online of Korzo Studio where artist in residence Alesandra Seutin works together with choreographer/performer Junadry Leocaria.
Media café
In Studio X, the public can find streams of broadcasts from the media café, built specially for the occasion in Korzo. During CaDance, there will be broadcasts from Thursday thru Sunday. In addition to the CaDance newscast there is also room for Studio Talks, a series of table discussions. Guests will be welcomed, such as Astrid Boons, Alesandra Seutin, Sarada Sarita, Alida Dors, Wubkje Kuindersma, Antonin Comestaz, Antonin Rioche and Korzo’s programmers.
The winner of the Leo Spreksel Award, the encouragement award for young choreographic talent will be announced on 7 February.
What has been cancelled
New in the CaDance program is a further expansion of dance and movement with the addition of circus and physical theatre to the festival program. Unfortunately though, performances by Alexander Vantournhout (Belgium), Tall Tales Company, and Naomi Velissariou have been cancelled. Also, Katja Heitmanns immaterial heritage project Motus Mori has been cancelled. These creatives will return in other projects in the context program and broadcasts from the media café. Fresh Perspectives, the double bill by Poernima Gobardhan and Amira Al Rawi has also been cancelled. Some of these dance, circus, and theatre makers will perhaps return later in the season. We are currently examining alternative dates. People who have already bought tickets will be kept apprised of the situation.
