Celebrating the history of the India Dance Festival

Rukmini Vijayakumar is one of the most prominent Bharatanatyam dancers within her generation. The versatile dancer is recognized for her unique movement style (heavily influenced by the ancient Indian movement practice of karanas, her athleticism and her compelling expression. In 2018, she was artist-in-residence of the festival and  created this solo.

The Muse is inspired by the life of Camille Claudel. It deals with how the connection between the artist and their art can be so close that they often cannot separate themselves from their work. The art is also an extension of the artist’s personal journey and life, becoming a reflection of successes, failures, turmoil and joy.
