After the online premiere at CaDance 2021, Arise will be shown live for the first time in The Hague! In her intense choreography, Astrid Boons shows her personal perspective on the compulsory social and societal standards, that dictate which ambitions are suitable for women. Three female dancers struggle with physically compelling restrictions. Restrictions consisting of no more than light. Intuitively and tentatively, their bodies flow and coalesce in space, until they slowly reveal their strength and fragility.

Astrid Boons feels, thinks, feels again, and explores with her dancers – often in slow motion – the deeper layers of the movements in our bodies. In her own way, she is radical in this respect because in this slow motion sometimes the most complex, uncomfortable, and confrontational stories unfold before our very eyes. Stories that we in our busy and hasty lives prefer to avoid. With Astrid, we can face them.
Astrid Boons has been associated with Korzo’s production house since 2016. In that year she won the BNG Bank Dance Prize with her duet Rhizoma. Her duet Vestige was acclaimed by Het Parool as one of the five best dance performances of the year.
