With the New Horizons performances, you can discover and follow a new generation from India and the Netherlands. Various creatives managed to distinguish themselves during the pandemic with their innovative online activities and their new, groundbreaking productions.
It is the raising of your brow, the wrinkling of your cheek. It is the soft positioning of your shoulder, the way your palm opens. It is the way the shimmer in your eyes reflects my soul in yours.
How do our relationships come about? Is it a natural process, deeply woven into our dna? Is it an explicit arrangement, sealed with an autograph? Or is it a confluence of meetings, experiences and conversations that show us both in what way we are connected? Whatever the nature of our relationship may be, mutual exchange is an important part of it. What happens if we can't seem to find the words?
In KISHAN, Shailesh Bahoran searches for an essence of the interhuman experience by immersing himself in the relationship between him, his non-verbal son Kishan (8) and the outside world. The role of a severe autism spectrum disorder marks the starting point of a dance piece about the nature of a deeply personal connection, the boundaries of social norms and the necessary inner strength to combine the two.

Het is je wenkbrauw die optrekt, je mondhoek die volgt. Het is de stand van je schouders, de open palm van je hand. Het is de glinstering in je ogen, die mijn ziel in de jouwe weerspiegeld.
Hoe komen onze relaties tot stand? Is het een natuurlijk proces, diep verweven in ons dna? Is het een concrete afspraak, ondertekend op papier? Of is het een samenloop van ontmoetingen, ervaringen en gesprekken die ons beide laat zien in welke mate we verbonden zijn? Wat de aard van onze relatie ook is, onderlinge uitwisseling is er een levensgroot onderdeel van. Maar wat als je de taal van de ander nog niet spreekt?
In KISHAN onderzoekt Shailesh Bahoran de essentie van de intermenselijke ervaring door op reis te gaan in de verhouding tussen hem, zijn non-verbale zoontje Kishan (8) en de buitenwereld. De rol van een ingrijpende autismespectrumstoornis is het startpunt van een dansvoorstelling over de aard van een diepe persoonlijke verbinding, de grenzen van de sociale norm en de noodzakelijke innerlijke kracht om te blijven beseffen dat iemand mag zijn wie hij in zijn puurste wezen is.
