Now in its 30th season and under the leadership of Artistic Directors Aparna Ramaswamy and Ranee Ramaswamy and Choreographic Associate Ashwini Ramaswamy (mother and daughters), Ragamala Dance Company has been hailed by The New York Times as ‘soulful, imaginative, and rhythmically contagious.’ Over the last four decades, Ranee and Aparna’s practice in the South Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam has shifted the trajectory of culturally rooted performing arts in the United States to create an exemplary company within the American dance landscape.

Aditi Mangaldas is one of the undisputed greats of Indian Kathak dance. By inventively incorporating modern elements, she propels this dance form to new heights. Aditi is praised for her innovative, refreshing choreographies, not to mention her exceptional, refined dance technique.

Chandenie Gobardhan (NL/UK)

Chandenie was born and raised in The Hague and currently works and lives in London. By continuing to look for new ways to approach movement, she has developed a movement language that draws on traditions from East and West. In recent years, Chandenie has worked with makers such as Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Blenard Azizaj and Ryan Djojokarso.

Poernima Gobardhan is one of the great talents of Indian dance in the Netherlands. She is guided by Bharatanatyam as a movement language, Indian dramaturgy and reflects on personal experiences and events in her immediate surroundings. Poernima is looking for connection when she creates a piece, not to project her own voice or provide a solution but to contribute to the palette of existing stories.

Sooraj Subramaniam is an Australian-Belgian dance artist of Malay-Indian descent. His training in Bharatanatyam and Odissi began at Sutra Dance Theatre in Malaysia. In Australia, he studied classical ballet with Stella Johnson and later graduated from the Western Australian Academy for Performing Arts
