Wubkje Kuindersma & Paxton Ricketts

In the poetic and surreal performance Metahuman, Another Kind of Blue and choreographer Wubkje Kuindersma takes you the crossroads between the digital and analogue world. The piece shows us how both worlds meet and develop together and separately. Led by the wonderful music by Anthony Fiumara, we find ourselves in a parallel mirror-world where the two analogue dancers make acquaintance with their two digital alter egos. Out of curiosity, they embark together on a journey of discovery in search of movement and emotion and learn more about themselves.

With the help of visuals, motion capture and computer simulations, a fascinating and somewhat alienating world is created where the question is asked: is what I see real or not?

This is a poem. Not what you’re reading now, but what you’re reading about. This poem is about joy, in its many fleeting and enigmatic forms. The creation of this poem was also a task in joy. We held ourselves very strictly to thoroughly enjoying ourselves throughout the process. For just like hot buttered toast or doll house chandelier collections, it is a matter to be taken very seriously. This poem, as well as our approach to it, delicately balances cynicism and sincerity. However, even in our most cynical moments, we approach the work with the utmost sincerity. J O Y Drafts - An incomplete list premiered in 2021 at Switch by NDT dancers in The Hague. It was selected as a semi-finalist for the 2022 Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition.
